CONFORMATION
“She is one of these great physical specimens, much in the same mold of a Sally Bowles,” said Barry Irwin. “She is tall, she has a phenomenal girl for a young filly and she has the scope to develop the physique of an Amazon.
“I liked everything about her. She is every bit as good as any filly in this sale. If she were by a recognizable sire, she would have topped the sale among the fillies.”

SIRE - Modus Vivendi
Modus Vivendi was a Group 2 winner of the Prix Daphnis in France going a middle distance.
This filly is from his first crop of foals.
Modus Vivendi is a full brother to Xaar, one of the fastest 2-year-old in England since WW2 and a top International sire. He won Group 1s at 2 in both England and France and was Timeform rated at 132 at age 2. He was the Champion Colt both at 2 and 3.
Xaar and Modus Vivendi were sired by the late Zafonic, a son of Gone West colt who was Champion at 2 in England and Europe, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas at Newmarket at 3 and en route to a fabulous career as a sire when he died following a paddock accident at Arrowfield Stud in Australia, where he was being shuttled from England.
FAMILY
Golden Idol is closely related to the current 3-year-old filly Western Ade, who is from the same Mr. Prospector sire line.
First dam Light Fandango was a stakes winner at 2 and multiple Graded stakes-placed in a career that saw her win 5 times and place 23 times.
Light Fandango is among 3 stakes winners foaled by her dam, the others being 12-time winner and Graded winner Ghostly Galleon, and former Team Valor runner Come to Light, a stakes winner and oft Graded stakes-placed runner.
BROODMARE SIRE - Call The Guard
Call the Guard is a son of Nureyev who was a winner for Andre Fabre in France before imported to stand at Daytona Stud in South Africa, where he enjoyed a moderate career at stud.
He is best remembered as the sire of Military Muse, a double Grade 1 winner including the Champions Handicap.
Call the Guard has a very good pedigree and Nureyev blood has done exceptionally well in South Africa, as is evidenced by the success of Caesour, sire of Irridescence, Perfect Promise, Dane Julia and Alexandra Rose.
NOTES
“It wouldn’t have made any difference to me if this filly was by The Man in the Moon out of an Andy Kaufman mare, I was buying her—period,” said Barry Irwin.
“On the one hand I was surprised that she cost as much as she did because of her pedigree, but I was not really surprised that somebody else coveted her as much as us, because of her conformation.”
TRAINER
Mike de Kock will train.
This season, South Africa’s most successful trainer sent out $58,000 National Yearling Sale graduate Little Miss Magic to win the Grade 1 Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein.
The most successful international trainer in the history of South Africa, de Kock pioneered the way North and East for his nation, winning important races in Dubai with Victory Moon, Asiatic Boy and Ipi Tombe, and in Hong Kong with Irridescence.
He vies annually with Geoff Woodruff for the title of leading trainer, even though he spends much time abroad.
Mike showed the quality of his judgment and ability when he brought Horse Chestnut to the United States. Less than 90 days after clearing quarantine, the son of Fort Wood raced on dirt for the first time, winning a Graded event at Gulfstream Park in the manner of a top horse. A bowed tendon ended the dream of a championship campaign for a colt generally recognized to be the greatest athlete in South African racing history.
